Steven Kretchmer was known as an innovative American designer who created new precious metal alloys and new ways of creating jewelry. He was best-known for his tension settings, in which the diamond is held by the tremendous tension between the two halves of the setting. He developed a special platinum alloy and special machines to create these rings with the appropriate strength, and created a ring which shows the diamond off with no distractions of prongs or bezels. The diamond in this “Omega” style ring weighs .78 carats; it is E in color and VVS1 in clarity, and is accompanied by a diamond grading report from the Gemological Institute of America. The ring is a size 5 ¼; these rings cannot be sized, but must have a new setting made.
