Edwardian Diamond & Sapphire Wreath Bar Pin

An elegant Edwardian bar pin crafted in platinum, this antique jewel features a delicate repeating wreath and garland motif set with European-cut diamonds and accented by cushion-cut blue synthetic sapphires.

The airy openwork design is characteristic of Edwardian jewelry, when platinum allowed jewelers to create exceptionally fine, lace-like settings that emphasized lightness and delicacy. Here, 36 European-cut diamonds totaling approximately 1.29 carats are individually bead- and bezel-set throughout the scrolling wreath design, creating the soft brilliance associated with antique-cut diamonds.

Three cushion-cut synthetic sapphires provide vivid points of blue against the cool platinum and diamonds. Synthetic sapphires were an innovative material during the early 20th century and are found in period jewelry; their presence is part of the historical character of this Edwardian jewel rather than something I would hide in the description.

Measuring approximately 3⅜ inches long, the brooch has an elegant linear proportion and can be worn horizontally on a lapel, jacket or dress, or vertically for a more contemporary interpretation.

A beautiful example of Edwardian openwork jewelry, combining antique diamonds, platinum craftsmanship and the graceful garland motifs associated with the period.
